This code of ethics was developed to guide my teaching practice on a daily basis. The code will guide how I prepare my classroom, treat my students, what I expect of them during class time. Also, how I expect my students to think and act when they leave my classroom.
- I will treat my students equally no matter their background or ability.
- I will teach my students with patience and empathy.
- I will create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in the classroom.
- I will treat my students with the same kindness and respect that I would like for them to treat me with.
- I will be honest with my students when discussing their work and how they can improve.
- I will support my students in learning from their mistakes/failure and help them to understand that mistakes are part of the process of achieving success.
- I will give my students the power of choice in the classroom allowing them to explore how assignments relate to their personal interests.
- I will teach my students that perseverance and a strong work ethic will steer them towards success.
- I will give my students a second chance to succeed on assignments with a poor grade.
- I will teach my students the importance of caring for a place/community and emphasize leaving a place better than you found it.
- I will incorporate regional and global issues into my lesson plans to teach students the importance of speaking out through their art work on issues that are important to them.
